SUCCESSFUL MEDICAL CAMPS

On the 6^th of April, 2024, Viva Africa flagged off a free medical camp exercise in Nairobi and Nakuru counties in partnership with Rotary foundation and local medical institutions. The three day medical camp which began on the fourth day of April benefitted thousands of Nairobi and Nakuru residents. In Nairobi, the camp was pitched at Kenyatta National Hospital and Kasarani primary school while in Nakuru it happened at Kikopey clinic.

According to Dr Victor Odhiambo, it is important for people to take control of their before they are very sick. He noted that people often wait until they are very sick for them to seek medical services which shouldn’t be the case.

“What we advise and the reason we hold such medical camps is that people are now able to come in at a very early stage and are able to pick up any infection or any complication at an early stage when they have no serious complications.”

Viva Africa founder Dennis Orengo said the public should always show up for the medical camps in large numbers to be educated and get treated early so as to prevent further medical complications.

One of the beneficiaries of the free medical camp Aisha Hakimani was grateful for the free medical camp services saying that accessing medical services has become expensive especially now that the cost of living has gone up.

Another beneficiary Roselyne Opiyo who had visual impairment, also thanked Viva Africa and her partners for coming up with such an initiative saying it has helped the poor. She affirmed that she received two eye glasses which would not have been able to afford. Among the free services offered in the medical camp included; pharmacy, routine labs, nutrition consultations, optical reviews, diabetes and hypertension management, weight management, asthma and other respiratory related conditions, cervical cancer screening and general lab consultations. Patients suffering from communicable diseases such as malaria were also attended to.
